Mesenteric Artery STenosis

Mesenteric artery stenosis is the narrowing of the arteries that supply blood to the intestines. This is caused by atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). The most common symptoms of mesenteric stenosis are abdominal pain after eating and unexplained weight loss.

Risk Factors for Mesenteric Artery Stenosis

  • Smoking
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity

  • High cholesterol

Diagnosis

  • Mesenteric Ultrasound

Treatment

We can offer the following treatment options:

  • Observation: Regularly scheduled mesenteric ultrasound to evaluate the severity of mesenteric artery stenosis
  • Angioplasty and stenting: Minimally invasive procedure (endovascular) using stents and balloons to open arteries to improve blood flow to the intestines.
